Outdoor Living
The stone columns flanking this patio were always part of the architecture — what they lacked was a reason to be noticed after dark. A single fixture at the base of each pillar changes that entirely, turning a structural detail into a genuine focal point and giving the space a defined threshold between yard and gathering area. The lighting stays low and warm on purpose, so it frames the patio without competing with the window light spilling down from the deck above. The result is a backyard that reads as finished and usable well past sunset, not just during the hour before dark when most outdoor spaces quietly go unused.
Architectural Uplighting
A home this size lives or dies on how its lighting handles scale. Here, fixtures are aimed to graze up the gable ends, tracing the roofline against the dusk sky while the arched window above the entry glows warm from within — two very different light sources working together instead of competing. Getting this right is mostly about restraint: enough intensity to carry up two full stories of brick, but precisely enough control that the texture of the masonry stays visible instead of blowing out into a flat wash. Viewed from the street, the whole front elevation reads as one composed scene, not a collection of separate floodlights.
Path & Entry Lighting
Small lantern-style path lights trace the walkway from the yard to the front steps, spaced to keep every footfall lit without turning the garden beds into a runway. Overhead, a warm wash across the porch ceiling does the quieter work of making the entry itself feel like an actual welcome rather than just a door at the end of a walkway. Together, the two elements create a single, continuous sequence from driveway to doorstep — the kind of detail a homeowner notices every single night, even if a guest only notices it once, in passing, and can't quite say why the house feels so inviting.
